The Philosophical Disenfranchisement of Art
Published in Hardcover by Columbia University Press (September, 1986)
Author: Arthur Coleman Danto
Average review score:

What came first, Arthur Danto ideas or the artist's work?
Arthur Danto raises many interesting points to help understand art today. In many cases his ideas are very insightful. It made me wonder about what came first, Danto's ideas, or the artist's ideas as revealed in their work?

Philosophy of Law: An Introduction to Jurisprudence
Published in Textbook Binding by Rowman & Littlefield (November, 1984)
Authors: Jeffrie G. Murphy and Jules Coleman
Average review score:

A great start to a wonderful subject
This book will walk you through, painlessly, the marvels of one of Law's most interesting subject, Jurisprudence or Philosophy of Law. It focuses on the most important contributions on the matter by: Dworkin, Hart, as well as others. It's also great for a quick review on the subject or a brief introduction. Well written, a breeze to read.

Picador Book of Sportswriting
Published in Paperback by Pan Books Ltd (December, 1998)
Authors: Nick Coleman and Nick Hornby
Average review score:

you don't have to love sport to love this compilation
The Picador Book Of Sports Writing is a well constructed, almost historic look at the art and diversity of sports writing. The stories range from formal structured reports to humerous anecdotes reflecting little nothings in the world of sport. The book is about sport and the sport is used through the book as a vessel for a metaphor to life. In the least a metaphor for a life relevent cuturally, politically and socially to the time and place the piece was written. Some of the stories lack depth but they certaintly make up for it in style. A great complilation, with a couple of exceptions. Very worthwhile for anyone interested in almost any sport or the creative gift of sports journalism/ writing.

Text is easy to read, the print quality good, and thebook pages are extra think and coated with a varnish to keep fingerprints and dirt spots when in the garden) off the pages... packed withinformation.

Questions from Your Cosmic Dance
Published in Paperback by Hazelden Information Education (01 May, 1997)
Author: John Coleman
Average review score:

Splendid achievement of devotional question and answer.
John Coleman hits at the heart of one of life's most meaningful questions in this work- how do we find peace in our lives amidst the constant grind of daily life? Mr. Coleman seeks to answer this basic quandry by addressing our lives and their various aspects that influence our health and our peace. The book is broken into sections that offer questions and answers in terms of mental, phsyical and spiritual health. This is done in a way that is more congruent with real life than most books of this genre. Namely, Coleman's writing style is in the first person, which brings the reader into the world of the questions being asked. Second, his writing content doesn't attempt or presume to have the "right" answer. He simply suggests different ways that people go about finding inner peace in their personal, professional and social lives. Great book for those who struggle with being happy with themselves and how they relate interpersonally to others. Useful for self-acutalization for all people, athough at a quick glance the work may appear religious in nature. There are no attempts in this book to persuade or convert to any specific religious ideology or philisophical school of thought. Just an honest question and answer between human writer and human reader. I recommend this book for anyone interested in self-improvement and who is serious about loving themselves more fully.

Quick Meals With Fresh Foods
Published in Paperback by Sunset Pub Co (September, 1983)
Authors: Sunset Editors, Joan Griffiths, Sunset Magazine & Book, and Claire Coleman
Average review score:

my first cookbook, and one i still sometimes turn to....
it's too bad this book is out of print - the recipes are varied, efficient, easy, and satisfying. i especially like the tagliarini with garlic sauce (p. 45) - a house favorite.

this book is a good beginner's cookbook. each recipe offers simple menu suggestions, and the book is also laced with a number of helpful kitchen tips. my only quarrel is with the paucity of vegetarian recipes.

The Real Barry Humphries
Published in Hardcover by Robson Book Ltd (April, 1995)
Author: Peter Coleman
Average review score:

Exactly what was required.
A terrific account of the life of Australia's most famous and controversial satirist. The biography is more satisfying than Humphries own autobiography "More Please" as it covers till the end of the 1980s and pays more attention to his numerous achievements. The language is not as poetic as Humphries writing but is clear, precise and poetic. In this biography you will discover the social and satirical content of Humphries shows since the 1960s, the Barry McKenzie comic strip and films of the 1960s and early 70s and more clever slang than you can poke a stick at. A must for Humphries enthusiasts.

Resolved: You're Dead (Horror High, No 2)
Published in Paperback by Harper Mass Market Paperbacks (December, 1990)
Authors: Nicholas Adams and Clay Coleman
Average review score:

"Your initiation into murder..."
At the beginning of the school year at Cresswell High, 10th-grader Lisa Enright and her boyfriend (Skip Masters) join the debating team--she as the recording secretary, and he as the replacement for one of the debate members. Not long after joining, though, Skip is murdered during a hazing prank. With the help of one of the group's leading speakers (Donna Forsi), Lisa tries to uncover the truth about her boyfriend's death.

"Resolved: You're Dead" isn't the best book I've read by Nicholas Adams, but at least it's short (153 pages). About three-fourths of the way into the book, though, the identity of the killer is revealed, leaving very little suspense after that. Most readers will be able to guess the ending, too. But if you like Nicholas Adams and/or the Horror High series, then you might like this book. R. L. Stine fans will probably like Horror High, as well.

Screen Tests Portraits Nudes 1964-1996
Published in Hardcover by Steidl Publishing (April, 1900)
Authors: Gerard Malanga, Patrick Remy, Marc Parent, A.D. Coleman, and Debra Miller
Average review score:

Masterpiece of photography in the 70s
This book is a nice summary of Malanga's photographical work. Don't expect much new work. The portraits e.g. are a selection of those in "Resistance to Memory", but the framing is much better (and it's cheaper). Anyway, Screen Tests and Portraits gives a great view into New York's Underground and Warhol's Factory of the 70s. It's a pitty that the poems of Malanga are not integrated in this publication, because some of these poems are written especially for the "Screen Tests", e.g. Nico's Screen Test. This document can't be missed in your Factory collection!
